Experience a slice of old Waiheke at the Museum of Waiheke and Historic Village!
Yes, Waiheke Island existed even before the Lonely Planet discovered it. Centuries of hard-working and independent-minded people have called the island home, and our museum tells their stories. From the earliest Māori villages and defensive fortifications, through the beginnings of European settlement and the development of agriculture and industry, the Museum of Waiheke brings history to life through its displays, its publications, and its vast collection of photos, videos, and music.
Catch our love for our island home by visiting us at 165 Onetangi Road, halfway between the towns of Ostend and Onetangi (opposite Tantalus vineyards). There is a car park and we are a stop on the Hop-On Hop-Off bus route and the 50A and 50B city bus routes.
The Museum of Waiheke is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays Mondays from 11AM to 3PM. Entry is by donation; we suggest $3 per person.
