Little Palm Beach: Waiheke’s Peaceful Paradise

Hidden just around the headland from Waiheke’s popular Palm Beach is a tucked-away gem that locals affectionately call Nudey Beach. Officially known as Little Palm Beach, this secluded spot has long been one of the island’s best-kept secrets—and that’s exactly how people like it.

Small, peaceful, and surrounded by native bush, Little Palm is the kind of beach you only find when you're curious—or lucky. Accessible only by foot, you can reach it via a short coastal track from the eastern end of Palm Beach or by a steep walking path from Hauraki Road. Either way, your reward is golden sand, crystal-clear water, and a serene atmosphere far from the buzz of the busier beaches.

At the far northern end of the beach (tucked discreetly behind the rocks), you’ll find the unofficial clothing-optional area that’s earned Little Palm its cheeky nickname, Nudey Beach. It’s a relaxed, inclusive space where everyone’s welcome—just bring good vibes and a sense of respect. If baring all isn’t your style, don’t worry. The main stretch of sand is more conservative, so there’s room for everyone to enjoy.

Little Palm Beach is perfect for a low-key afternoon swim, sunbathing session, or peaceful moment with a book. It’s also a fantastic spot for skinny dipping under the stars if you're feeling brave—and very local.

Don’t expect cafés, shops, or even a toilet—this place is beautifully basic. Bring a towel, water, snacks, and anything else you need. If you’re staying nearby, it’s worth heading down early in the morning or late in the afternoon for the best light and ultimate tranquillity.

Dogs are allowed on-leash during certain times of the year, so check local signage before you go. And as always—leave no trace. This little slice of paradise stays pristine because people take care of it.

Little Palm Beach isn’t on the typical tourist route, and that’s what makes it so special. It feels like Waiheke before the world arrived—wild, warm, and quietly magical.

Just promise us one thing…

Let’s keep this between us, okay?
